Assalamualaikum warrahmatullahi wabarrakatuh.

Hai adik-adik sekalian... Selamat siang, selamat berjumpa kembali dengan Miss Shanty. Semoga kalian dalam keadaan sehat dan tetap semangat belajar walaupun dalam suasana khawatir karena adanya COVID 19.  
Dalam kesempatan kali ini saya akan memberikan materi belajar tentang Complimenting and Showing Care. Materi ini membahas tentang bagaimana caran kita mengekspresikan ungkapan pujian dan perhatian beserta responsnya. Materi ini dilengkapi pula dengan soal sebagai bahan latihan untuk kalian.

 COMPLIMENTING

The Definition of Expression of Compliment
Compliment is an expression that we say to appreciate or praise other people. 
(pujian adalah ekspresi yang kita katakan untuk mengungkapkan atau memberikan pujian kepada orang lain).

We can express compliment to someone in these situation.
kita mengucapkan pujian kepada seseorang pada saat:

1) On general occasion (pada situasi umum)
     When hosts prepare a meal for you: The cake was delicious! 

2)  When someone has done his/her best (seseorang melakukan hal luar biasa)
     contoh : great job!

3)  When you visit someone’s house for the first time 
     (ketika mengunjungi rumah seseorang pertama kali)
     contoh : What a beautiful house you have!

4)  When you notice something new about someone’s appearance.
     (ketika melihat sesuatu yang baru dari penampilan seseorang)
      contoh : You look beatiful with the dress! 

                         
                         

 
Rumus membuat kalimat pujian dalam bahasa Inggris. Berikut ini 4 pola kalimat yang paling sering digunakan:

1. How + Adjective + Noun + is/are.
   Contoh kalimatnya:   -  How beautiful flower is.
                                     -  How deep ocean is.

2. What + Adjetive + Noun.
    Contoh kalimatnya:  -  What a high mount
                                     -  What a wonderful job

3. Noun Phrase + is/look + (really) + Adjective.
    Contoh ungkapan :  -  The woman’s bag looks wonderful
                                    -  The actor’s performance on the stage is really attractive

4. Noun/Pronoun + (really) + like/love + Noun Phrase.
    Berikut contohnya:   -  We all really love your performance
                                     -  All teachers really love your commitments

5. Pronoun + is + (really) + Adjective + Noun Phrase.
    Contoh kalimatnya:   -  This is a really wonderful painting
                                      -  That’s a great looking car.

Dialog 1
Rima  : Dion! I think I saw your father yesterday.
Dion   : Did you see my father in the airport yesterday?
Rima  : Yes, Dion. He wore a very nice leather jacket. I like it!
Dion   : I bought it for him. He looks great with the jacket.
Rima  : Yes I agree Dion.

Artinya
Rima  : Dion! Saya pikir saya melihat ayahmu kemarin.
Dion   : Apakah kamu melihat ayah saya di bandara kemarin?
Rima  : Ya, Dion. Dia mengenakan jaket kulit yang sangat bagus. Aku menyukainya!
Dion   : Saya membelikannya untuk ayah. Dia terlihat hebat dengan jaket itu.
Rima : Ya saya setuju Dion

Dialog 2
Dewi  : Hello, how are things going on?
Hana : Hi. Good, and you?
Dewi  : I’m feeling great today. How was your weekend with your family?
Hana : Excellent! We had a lovely time. You should have gone there with us.
Dewi  : Really? By the way, what a beautiful shoes you have. It matches with your dress.
Hana : Thanks a lot. My younger sister bought it for me three days ago.
Dewi : Great Job. Your sister has a good taste.

Artinya
Dewi : Halo, apa kabar?
Hana : Halo, Baik-baik saja.. dan kamu?
Dewi : Saya merasa bahagia hari ini. Bagaimana akhir pekan dengan suami?
Hana : Luar biasa. Kami menikmatinya. Kamu seharusnya ikut kesana Bersama kami.
Dewi : Benarkah? Omong-omong, sepatu kamu bagus, cocok dengan gaunya.
Hana : Terima kasih banyak. Adikku membelinya tiga hari lalu.
Dewi : Bagus sekali. Dia punya selera yang bagus.

Dialog 3
Rahmi  : Hello. How are things going on, Sinta ?
Sinta    : Hi. Good, and you?
Rahmi  : I’m feeling great today. How was your weekend with your family in Batu?
Sinta    : Excellent! We had a lovely time there. You should have gone there with us.
Rahmi  : Really? Hey, what a beautiful skirt you are wearing. It matches your blouse.
Sinta    : Thanks a lot. My sister bought it for me last month.
Rahmi  : Wow! That’s wonderful.
Sinta    : Oh, Rahmi, can I ask you something?
Rahmi  : Oh, sure. Please.
Sinta    : Have you finished writing the book we discussed two months ago?
Rahmi  : Yes. Come to my room. Look at this. What do you think?
Sinta    : Terrific. I like the cover. Let me see the contents. This book is excellent.   
              You really did a great job.
Rahmi  : Thanks a lot. You’ve inspired me to do this.
Sinta    : Your publisher should send it to all bookstores here.
Rahmi  : Yes, you’re right. The publisher will do it for me.
Sinta    : Well, that’s great. I am proud of you, Rahmi. By the way, I’ve got to go now.           
               Have a nice day!
Rahmi  : You, too.


SHOWING CARE

Sympathy expression is an expression or feeling of pity and sorrow when we know and see people are unlucky, have trouble, or are in bad condition. (ekspresi atau perasaan kasihan dan duka ketika kita tahu dan melihat orang-orang tidak beruntung, mengalami masalah, atau berada dalam kondisi buruk).
By expressing sympathy, we want to show our concern or care for other people’s condition.

FUNCTION : to comfort people who have trouble or are in bad condition.
                      for giving attention/care to a people. 
                      (ungkapan ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan kepedulian terhadap orang lain).


Berikut ini contoh ungkapan-ungkapan yang digunakan dalam menunjukkan ekspresi simpati kepada orang lain :

- I'm extremely sorry to hear that.    (Aku sangat berduka mendengarnya)  
- I was deeply sorry to hear you sick.   (Aku sangat berduka mendengarmu sakit)
- Please accept my condolences.   (Turut berbela sungkawa)  
- I know how it feels.          (Saya tahu bagaimana rasanya)
- I am sorry to hear that       (Turut berduka cita)
- What a pity of you!        (Kasihan sekali kamu!)
- I sympathize with your condition.   (Aku peduli dengan keadaanmu)
- It would be OK soon.
- Don't worry, I'm here for you.
- It is going to be alright.         
- You've helped me a lot during my difficult situation 
  (Kau membantuku banyak pada saat aku kesusahan
- I am sorry about your accident. I'll always be here if you need my help. 
  (Aku turut berduka dengan kecelakaanmu. Aku akan selalu disini jika kau ingin bantuanku)
- If you need anything, please just call me. 
  (Jika kamu menginginkan sesuatu, telepon saja aku)

Kelly   : Kamu terlihat sangat pucat, aku membawakan sup, teh, dan roti untukmu.

Tantri  : Terima kasih banyak. Kau teman yang sangat baik! aku sangat menghargainya
